The album is Drake’s fourth official studio album, he also has two commercial mixtapes. ‘Views’ consists of 20 tracks so hopefully there will be a couple stand-out songs.

Beyoncé has released her latest album ‘Lemonade’. The album makes her sixth and it seems to be her most personal. If you’re a Beyoncé fan you’ll have to be a Tidal subscriber as the album is exclusive to the streaming service.

3000 working on his studio album

image

Apparently one of the greats is back to work! Andre 3000 has been said to be working on an upcoming album. The album would be 3000’s first legit solo project. Most know 3000 from the southern duo “Outkast”. It’s been awhile since the group released their last studio album “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”. The album was a dual disc which was released in 2003. The album has two titles as it is widely considered as two separate projects. It is true that ‘Speakerboxxx’ is mostly the solo work of Big Boi and ‘The Love Below’ is mostly 3000’s individual piece, there technically has never been a solo album from 3000. With rumors swirling around, let’s hope this one is true!

KANYE RE-RELEASING TLOP

The_life_of_pablo_alternate-1

Kanye and streaming service “Tidal” have re-released an updated version of Ye’s recently released seventh studio album (after being pulled soon after release), “THE LIFE OF PABLO”. There’s a little catch though…in order to get the album one would have to have already purchased the first copy of the album. If purchased, Tidal would send a download link to the second version of the album. TLOP was originally a Tidal exclusive but by limiting who could purchase the album Kanye opened himself up to others finding less artist friendly methods, pirating. After reading around it appears that the album is now being released on other streaming sites/apps. I guess Mr. West learned that people are willing to buy albums if afforded the opportunity, but if not, don’t be surprised when your sales aren’t what you expected.

COMMON IS TAKING YOU TO THE JAZZ ROOM

image

If you’re a fan of real hip-hop, live music (or as live as listening to a live album can be), jazz, and classic songs then this album is for you. Common made this album while doing a live performance and it definitely makes one feel like they’re at a table with a candle, watching and listening. Personally, I was fully there as I caught myself rapping along with Common, especially when he did tracks from my favorite Hip-Hop album, “Be”. This album was unexpected and it’s a live album so it didn’t have any promotion and those don’t usually have much release hype. Despite the lack of promotion the album is still crazy and I definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates true hip-hop.

Jhene Aiko & Big Sean releasing a joint project

image

We haven’t heard much from the two artists since their individual albums but that may be because they’ve been collaborating on a joint project. Per their respective Twitter accounts, the artists each retweeted videos from a new account with the handle “Twenty88”. Both artists went on to later change their personal profile pictures to the album cover shown above and edit parts of their accounts to read “1/2 of Twenty88”. After the newly created account posted the videos, it then tweeted an album cover of the two and wrote “4/1” The tweet was later retweeted by both artists so hopefully it’s a sign of things to come and not an April’s Day fools joke. Fingers crossed, we should all be on the lookout for what’s undoubtedly going to be an amazing project.

Beyoncé?? Surprise album?? No way

download (2)

The internet is in a frenzy with rumors of another surprise album from Beyoncé in April. The superstar released an album in 2013 that had no singles, no videos, no promotions whatsoever prior to release. Even without notice the album still managed to make it to number one so to think she will do it again isn’t farfetched. The rumors started last month but have gained more momentum with tweets from fan sites confirming a next month release.

We lost a Hip Hop legend when Phife Dawg passed away from diabetes complications. On Wednesday night a Tribe Called Called Quest sent out a statement on its website about their tragic loss…

“Our hearts are heavy. We are devastated. This is something we weren’t prepared for although we all know that life is fleeting. It was no secret about his health and his fight. But the fight for his joy and happiness gave him everything he needed. The fight to keep his family happy, his soul happy and those around him happy, gave him complete and unadulterated joy… until he heeded his fathers call.

We love his family his mother, his father, his son, his wife, his nieces, his family here in New York, Atlanta, California and Trinidad.

Thank you for the outpouring of prayers and support from the fans, fellow artists, music outlets, blogs, radio stations, DJ’s, social media and the music community at large. This too is part of his joy and means a lot to him. His family is overwhelmed by the support, well wishes and are thankful. His music and what he’s contributed is seismic and hard to measure. He’s affected us as much as he’s affected all of you. We’re inspired by his daily joy and courage. He wasn’t in pain. He was happy.

We take comfort in knowing he will be beside his grandmother.”

Spotify reaches 30 Million subscribers

image

In a recent tweet Daniel Ek, CEO of the popular streaming application Spotify said that the service now has 30 million paid subscribers. While there was a lack of day one releases of huge artists such as Drake, Adele, Kanye West, Coldplay and Rihanna, other On-demand music services  specifically Tidal and Apple Music haven’t been able to do enough to slow down Spotify’s momentum. Coming late to the on-demand party, Pandora is preparing its application to add that same ability. We’ll see how the music service war plays out.

Drake says ‘Views From The 6’ is slated for an April release

IMG_7609

Drake has released a couple projects, ‘If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late‘ and ‘What A Time To Be Alive‘ since his last official studio release in 2013-Nothing Was The Same. In the meantime, Drake has been involved in a very one sided beef with Meek Mill. After his performance at SXSW where he released another Meek diss (Summer Sixteen) Drake went on to say that his new album, Views From The Six, would be out next month. If you’re anybody other than Meek Mill, check for it sometime in April.

WALE about “80 percent” done with next album

image

For those awaiting new music from Wale your wait shouldn’t be  much longer. During an interview with COMPLEX, Wale stated that his next album S.H.I.N.E (Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy) is about 80 percent finished. During the interview with the popular magazine, Wale went on to say

“Sonically, I always want to push myself as an artist and I think S.H.I.N.E. is a big example of me pushing myself and trying new things,” he explained. “My fifth album is a reason to celebrate, and a lot of the music I’ve been making is very chill. I’m singing—and I’m not singing to be the next Brian McKnight—I’m singing to enhance my songwriting ability and to evolve as an artist.”
